Cyclist Injured in Collision: Update

The Sarnia Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating a dark coloured vehicle involved in a hit and run collision. The vehicle is similar to a late 1990′s to early 2000 Gran Prix, 4 door. The vehicle may have damage to the front left bumper and hood area.

A 38 year old male from Sarnia is recovering in hospital with serious but non-life threatening sustained during the collision. The collision occurred on August 25, 2014 at around 11:15 p.m. at Bright and Russell Streets.

Cyclist Injured in Collision

Date: 26 August 2014

Sarnia Police are investigating a collision that occurred last night just after 11:00 pm involving a cyclist.

The cyclist was travelling south on Russell Street when he was struck by a dark coloured motor vehicle travelling east on Bright Street. The cyclist was transported to Bluewater Health with non-life threatening injuries. The motor vehicle failed and driver failed to stop and render assistance to the cyclist. The motor vehicle was last seen travelling south bound on Russell Street with front end damage.

The intersection of Russell Street, and Bright Street will remain closed until approximately 8:00 am while the Traffic Branch continues to investigate the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Ron Szabo #127 at (519) 344-8861 Ext 6127

COPPS Unit Have Busy Night

Over the past month the City of Sarnia has been experiencing a rash of bike thefts. Therefore the members of the COPPS Unit focused resources on an investigation to attempt to deter the thefts and determine who suspects maybe.

In the course of the investigation the officers observed a man and woman in the 300 block of Davis Street steal two bicycles at the same time. Fortunately the officers were able to arrest both parties. Charges between the two totaled 8 charges ranging from theft of bicycles, possession of drugs, breach of recognizance and breaches of probation.

Later that evening the members of the COPPS unit were in the 800 block of Devine St when they observed a male steal a bicycle and attempt to flee the area. Fortunately the officers were able to apprehend the man who was in his 40′s. He was subsequently charged with theft and breaches of probation. …

Identifying Stolen Bike

On August 16, 2014, a member of the Sarnia Police Service COPPS Unit was dealing with a man that was attempting to evade police while riding on a bicycle. The officer was able to stop the male without any significant incident and secondary to a further investigation it was determined that he was allegedly breaching his Probation Orders and was in possession of a stolen bicycle along with mischief to the police cruiser.

The police are requesting the public's assistance in this matter. The man was in possession of a female's green and white Trek 3700 mountain bike as seen below. If you can assist the Sarnia Police Service or verify that you are the owner of this bike (ie. know the serial number), please contact the investigating officer PC A. Three Day Suspension

Sarnia Police Service responded to a single vehicle collision at the corner of Confederation Street and Finch Drive at about 7:00PM last night August14, 2014.

The 72 year old female driver of the vehicle had swerved to avoid running over a cat on Finch Drive. The car left the roadway and struck a stone fence causing a large hole in the fence. During conversation with the driver the officer on scene could smell alcohol on the lady's breath and a roadside test was conducted. The lady provided a sample and registered a “Warn” on the device. She was issued a three day license suspension and also issued a ticket for Careless Driving under the Highway Traffic Act.

Collision: Indian at Rosedale.

Date: August 12, 2014

Sarnia Police responded to a four vehicle collision on Monday August 11, 2014 just before 6:00PM at the intersection of Indian Road and Rosedale Avenue.

A vehicle driven by a 67 year old Sarnia man failed to stop for a red light while travelling north on Indian Road and collided with a vehicle going west on Rosedale Road. The car which was struck then collided with two other vehicles stopped for the red light in the south bound lanes of Indian road before hitting a pole. Sarnia Fire and Rescue attended and extricated the driver, a 19 year old female. The young lady and her passenger were then transported to Bluewater Health with non-life threatening injuries.

The Sarnia man was issued a ticket for Failing to Stop for a Red Light.

Update: Female Pedestrian Identified.

The Sarnia Police Service has identified the deceased female pedestrian involved in the August 10, 2014 collision on Maxwell Street. The Criminal Investigation Branch is in the process of notifying the family and the name will not be released at this time.

Sarnia Police wish to thank the public for their assistance during this stage of the investigation. The Traffic Branch continues to investigate the collision.

Update: Fatal Collision

The Sarnia Police Service continues in its attempt to identify the deceased female pedestrian involved in yesterday's fatal collision.

The collision occurred at approximately 4:30pm in the area of Maxwell and Roger St. The female victim is described as approximately 50 years of age, approximately 5'0″, slender build, short dark hair, wearing a grey t-shirt, jean skirt and brown clog type sandals. The female was carrying a grocery bag containing fresh vegetables which appeared to have been freshly picked from a garden.

The vehicle involved has been seized for examination and the driver interviewed. No charges have been laid at this point and the investigation continues.
