Vice Arrest Male for Dealing

Sarnia Police Service Vice officers arrested a 25 year old Sarnia man last night for several drug related offences.

The man was arrested around 9:30PM September 15, 2014 in a south end convenience store for possession of a Controlled Substance. At the time of his arrest he was found to have 1.5 grams of suspected marihuana and over 3 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine. Later that night at about 10:30PM Vice officers executed a search warrant at his home located in the 100 block of Brock Street South. Police located 5 Oxycodone pills and 15 codeine pills along with drug paraphernalia indicating trafficking in the home.

The total street value of all drugs is estimated to be $650.00. The man faces 2counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, 2 counts Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and 2 counts of violating release conditions. The man is bein…

Reminder Siren Testing Today

Sirens for outdoor notification north of Wellington Street have been added by the City of Sarnia with funding support from Community Awareness Emergency Response (CAER).

The public will hear sirens during additional Siren testing which will be conducted today, TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 16, 2014, while installation and inspections are finalized. People will hear sirens and PA messages in areas of the city not normally covered by outdoor sirens.

Normal testing takes place on Mondays at 12:30 PM only.

Sarnia Emergency Management also encourages the public to register with MyCNN at www.sarnia.ca or www.sarniapolice.com or www.caer.ca

Male arrested in north end, police still looking for his back pack

Date: September 16, 2014

Early this morning, shortly after midnight, police responded to a disturbance in the area of Devon and Westminster. A male is alleged to have uttered threats to persons in this area, and then fled northbound on foot. He was carrying a dark colored back pack at that time.

With the assistance of the OPP canine unit, the male was located at Lakeshore and Regency, and arrested by Sarnia Police at about 1:20 AM. This is approximately 3 km. from the scene of the incident.

It appears this male made his way northbound by going through back yards.

The male did not have the back pack with him at the time of the arrest. Police would like to recover this back pack.

If anyone discovers this back pack, please leave it where it is, and contact police immediately. Police do not know what, if anything is contained in the back pack at this point. Given the threa…

Impaired Driver

Date: September 15, 2014

On Sunday September 14, 2014 at about 2:40AM a Sarnia Police officer watched as a car drove away from a south end bar at a high rate of speed. The car at one point was travelling at twice the posted limit. The officer stopped the car and spoke to the 21 year old driver. The officer believed the young man to be impaired and transported him to the Police Station to provide samples of his breath. The breath samples indicated the man was 1 ½ times the legal limit. The Corunna man was charged with Impaired Operation and Drive with more than 80MG. The man was also issued a 90 day license suspension.

Update: Suspicious Male on Nature Trail

On Sunday September 14, 2014 at about 1:00 PM Sarnia Police responded to the area of the Howard Watson Nature Trail and the highway 402 after receiving reports of a suspicious male in the area armed with a handgun and wearing camouflage gear.

To ensure public safety police stopped east and west bound traffic on Highway 402 with the assistance of the Ontario Provincial Police. Sarnia Police also set up a perimeter around the area stopping all vehicle and pedestrian traffic. Some businesses were also locked down in the area. The Sarnia Police Emergency Response Team was notified; however the 23 year old Sarnia man was arrested prior to their arrival.

Once arrested it was discovered the handgun was in fact a BB gun. The Criminal investigation Branch executed a Public Safety Warrant around 6:30PM at the man's residence later that day. Detectives seized a 9mm pistol, three shot…

Suspicious Male on Nature Trail

On Sunday September 14, 2014 at about 1:00 pm Sarnia Police responded to the area of the Howard Watson Nature Trail and the highway 402 after receiving reports of a suspicious male in the area armed with a handgun and wearing camouflage gear.

As a precaution the area of the nature trail between Exmouth Street and Michigan Avenue was cordoned off while police conducted their investigation.

A 23-year-old man surrendered himself into police custody at about 1:30 pm.

The trail has since reopened.

2 Bike Thieves Caught Red Handed

Date: 12 September, 2014

On September 11, 2014 at around noon, two young men were observed steeling bicycles from an eating establishment on Christina Street in the City of Sarnia. Fortunately a complainant was able to see this happen and able to call the police with a description of the alleged thieves and the bicycles. Two members of the Sarnia Police Service COPPS Unit were in the area of Exmouth Street and Willowdale Crescent and saw the suspects on the bicycles as described. The two men were subsequently arrested without incident. Both face charges of Theft Under $5000 and Breach of Probation.

Both men were held for a bail hearing this morning.
